Your hiking holiday starts in Hobart under the watchful eye of kuynani. Hobart’s treasured mountain looks across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to Bruny Island rich with natural wonders and places to explore.
After a hearty breakfast at Harbour Lights or Malidini’s Café, we pick up our lunch packs (from where) and head south to Kettering and the Bruny Island Ferry. This 15-minute journey on the nairana or parrabah Sealink vessel provides spectacular views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel as we approach the island.
It is only short drive from North Bruny to Great Bay and our first stop. Mars Bluff, Cape Queen Elizabeth and the Rock Arch are just some of the highlights of our first day. Cameras/phone are a must for bushwalkers wishing to capture images of their fabulous Tasmanian holiday. Depending on tidal movements it is possible to reach The Arch, caves and alleyways that sit beneath Mars Bluff via Miles beach. If the tide is in, a moderately steep track traverses the bluff through heathlands and eucalypt woodlands with a view of the remarkable and pristine beach below.
Cape Queen Elizabeth track rises from the far end of the beach. Later, we wind our way southwards passing stunning scenery and diverse ecological landforms, glimpsing some of the trails we will tackle over the next few days , and head to the magnificently wild Cloudy Bay and our boutique lodge. Or perhaps we will stay at Ventnor, the historic homestead that once was home to the first postmistress of Bruny Island and gaze across the tranquil waters of Little Taylors Bay.
This evening, settle in & relax as you enjoy a selection of Tasmanian wine & cheeses and get to know the group. Tonight’s dinner is prepared in-house by your guide from locally sourced produce.
